Yahaya Bello: Abuja American School refunds $760,000 to EFCC

Former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello has received a refund of $760,000 he paid as advance school fees for his children at the American International School, Abuja.

On Friday, EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale confirmed the development to our correspondent in Abuja.

He said the school refunded the entire amount to the EFCC's recovery account.

Earlier, the American International School of Abuja had requested the EFCC provide "authentic banking details" for the refund of fees paid for the children of the former governor.

It is alleged that Bello paid $720,000 in advance as fees for five of his children from the coffers of the Kogi State Government.

At the school, the children are in Grade Levels 2 through 8.

An EFCC operative laid siege to Bello's Abuja residence on April 17 over an alleged N80.2 billion fraud.

Usman Ododo, governor of Kogi, arrived at the house and reportedly whisked Bello away while the operatives were at the house.

According to a letter addressed to the Lagos Zonal Commander of the EFCC, $845,852 has been paid in tuition "since 7 September 2021."

The amount to be refunded is $760,910 since education services have already been rendered, according to AISA.

In light of your investigation into alleged money laundering activities by the Bello family, please forward us an official written request, along with the authentic banking details of the EFCC, for the refund of the above-mentioned funds.

Our bank account has been credited with $845,852.84 in tuition and other fees since the 7th September 2021.

After subtracting the educational services rendered, the net amount to be transferred and refunded to the State is $760,910.84.

It is not expected that additional tuition fees will be charged to students since their fees have already been settled until they graduate from ASIA."
